Hidden Trap #9: Questionable Priorities

One thing continually amazes me. (Some) brides - and their mothers, God bless them - spend thousands of dollars on gorgeous gowns, exquisite flowers, tasty cakes, delicious food, elegant stationary, luxurious limousines, quick-witted DJs and talented musicians. But when it comes to photography - the most enduring part of the whole wonderful affair - they say, “We’re on a budget!”
True Story!
I had a dream once, where I traveled out-of-town to a wedding, where I assumed I was a guest. I got there quite early, was waiting around and the bride’s father came up and asked me if I was ready to take the pictures. I explained that nobody had said anything to me about doing the photos. A calm demeanor hid his panic and he asked how much I would charge. I asked him how much he was paying for the reception. He said, “(x) thousand.” I replied, “I’ll take (half) down and (half) when I deliver.”
Seemed like a fair price, considering the fact it was my dream! After all, the photos would last a lifetime and the reception would be history in just a few hours.
So, what’s my point? We often need to take a hard look at our priorities, ask ourselves the tough questions and deal honestly with the answers. I have my opinions, but the important thing for you is what is important to you?
